Rangers goalkeeper Grant Adam, brother of Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam, is due in court today charged with a sectarian breach of the peace.
Adam was arrested in the early hours of yesterday after a boozy night out celebrating his call-up to the Scotland Under-21 squad in Glasgow city centre.
It is claimed he made sectarian remarks while being ejected from Corinthian nightclub in Ingram Street and then repeated them to police when outside.
A witness told the Daily Record: "I saw bouncers ushering Grant out just after 2am. He didn't seem that drunk and he wasn't being manhandled. He seemed to be complying with the bouncers.
"I couldn't hear exactly what he said but I think it referred to his views on the Pope."
Rangers have confirmed they will be launching their own investigation into the incident. A club spokesman said: "We are aware that the player has been arrested and we will investigate the matter fully before making any further comment."
