Robbie Savage autobiography: The night Wales boss Bobby Gould chucked me out of the hotel at 5am

“I want you off the premises in 20 minutes, or I’m calling the police.” I couldn’t believe it. Bobby Gould, the manager of Wales, was threatening to call the cops if I didn’t leave the team hotel.
It was five in the morning when the phone rang in my room. Effing 5am and Gouldy was raging. He said: “You have shown complete disrespect to a fellow professional. That stunt with Paolo Maldini’s shirt.”
It was meant to be a bit of fun. Me, walking in front of the Sky cameras and tossing away legend Maldini’s shirt as a joke in the build-up to our 2000 European Championship qualifier against Italy.
I thought the stunt was funny and that Gouldy overreacted, and, as the years have gone on, I haven’t changed my mind.
