Robbie Savage's autobiography secrets: Me and fashion icon Becks used to wear £9.99 M&S jogging bottoms

I was always skint during my time as an apprentice at Manchester United.
The basic pay was just £29.50-a-week, plus a tenner for the bus fares. I spent it on sweets, chocolate and crisps from the shop near my digs.
In the second year, we got £39.50 and the first-year pros earned £90-a-week.
When I got to that stage, the lads like Nev, Butt, Scholesy and Becks were offered four-year deals and jumped up to £400-a-week – an absolute fortune. But I didn’t have a pot to pee in.
Clothes have always been one of my passions, but fashion is expensive and my budget didn’t stretch to anything fancy. If I wanted a new jumper or a pair of jeans, then I had to save up for them.
My pride and joy was a white Naf Naf jumper that cost £68. I wore it every day and dreamed of being able to afford Lacoste.
Over the years, I have become quite well known for my love of designer gear, but Becks leads the way in looking cool.
So picture this scene; me, Becks and the rest of the United boys catching the bus to the Arndale Centre, in Manchester, where we all piled into, wait for it, Marks & Spencer!
I can hardly believe I’m revealing this, but Marks & Sparks’ £9.99 jogging bottoms were so snug that we all had a pair of them – even a big fashion icon like Beckham.
