Former Inter Milan manager Roberto Mancini was being strongly linked with the Manchester City manager's job on Saturday morning - as Mark Hughes braced himself for the sack.
Rumours concerning Mancini, whio had a brief spell as a player at Leicester City, began to surface after it was claimed Hughes would be dismissed no matter what happened in City's 3pm kick-off against Sunderland.
Mancini won three Serie A titles with Inter after cup-winning spells bossing Fiorentina and Lazio, but was replaced by Jose Mourinho for failing to win the Champions League.
He is said to be a friend of City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak.
