Scott Carson and the Top 10 worst goalkeeping blunders: Video special
Published 16:20 20/11/08 By By Chris Wilson, Mirror.co.uk
Last night against Germany, Scott Carson proved once again why he'll never, ever play for England in a meaningful fixture. He's not the first goalie to make a howling error though, as these rather entertaining clips prove.
1) Scott Carson
Let's start with the hapless Carson. As if last night's blunder wasn't bad enough, take a peek at this mistake from 12 months ago against Croatia:
2) Paul Robinson
Sticking with current England keepers, Paul Robinsons didn't do himself any favours when he kicked the air instead of the ball during an England game in Croatia two year's ago. What is it about Croatia that brings out the worst in England keepers?
3) David Seaman
Another England shot-stopper to make the list is David Seaman who resembled an old man falling backwards off a stepladder during England's crucial World Cup 2002 game against Brazil.
4) Massimo Taibi
This former Manchester United keeper doesn't look too clever as Matt Le Tissier pings the ball through his legs. Hairdryer for one!
5) Kevin Pressman
This clip shows the two extremes of goalkeeping. Preston keeper Andrew Lonergan is brilliant, while Leicester keeper Kevin Pressman is a fool.
6) Stewart Kennedy
This entire video is ace, especially the ref's outfit, but the moment you're looking for comes at around 2mins 20seconds, when the Scottish goalie careers into his own post. Ouch. In fact, double ouch.
7) Gary Sprake
We couldn't find a clip of this but you've probably seen in on Jeepers Keepers or some such humorous compilation video. Anyway, it involves the Leeds United goalie throwing the ball into his own net in front of the Kop at Anfield.
"It went over my shoulder right into the net in front of 30,000 people and right in front of the Kop," explains Sprake. How did the Kop react? By serenading him with Careless Hands by Justine Washington, of course.
8) Peter Enckelman
Funny name, funny guy. Here's the Aston Villa keeper getting into all sorts of trouble in a derby match against Birmingham. Keep watching to see how one particular Birmingham fan reacted.
9) Roy Carroll
The second ex-Man United keeper to make the list was the subject of a huge debate after this messy attempted save. The goal didn't stand, and Spurs fans are still furious about it.
10) Various
And finally, a collection of other goalkeeping mishaps from around the world.
