So, Rafa Banitez is wanted by Juventus? But should he stay or should he go?
Juve tell Rafa: Quit Liverpool by next Friday if you want to be our boss
Champions League the key to Juve's bid for Benitez
Would he better off quitting Merseyside for Turin? Has he taken the Anfield giants as far as he can? Or should he stay in England and have another tilt at the Premier League title next season?
MirrorFootball asked two Anfield greats for their verdicts. This is what they had to say...
STAY
Alan Kennedy (Liverpool 1978-85 - Two-time European Cup winner):
"Rafa's been in the job for five years and he's openly admitted in the last few weeks that he's made mistakes this season.
"But when we look back this season, it's been a catalogue of mistakes throughout. The fans aren't happy that the likes of Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa left last summer and the big one for me was Sami Hyypia.
"It's not been a good season. You could point the finger at quite a few things and, off the field, we've lurched from one problem to another.
"I think that for Rafa, if we end up winning the Europa League it could be decent. I know it's not the major competition, but it is a competition, and people say you should try to win every tournament you're in.
"It's not impossible but it's improbable we'll finish fourth and the manager has said that he needs funds to buy players. We've got to look to do that and hopefully take Liverpool back to the top.
"I like Rafa, I'm a fan, and I don't think a manager should feel he should leave on the back of one poor season.
"I think he can take the club forward again. You have to look at what the man has done. It's his team now and some of it hasn't been so good this season but the crowd have been very patient.
"They've been wondering whether he's the right man for the job and the majority have stuck by Rafa.
"Christian Purslow has come out and said Rafa's the man for the job and we've got to back the manager and hope that we can rescue something out of this season."
GO
Paul Walsh (Liverpool 1984-88. Part of the squad that won the double in 1986):
"If he went to Juventus or Real Madrid he wouldn't have to hold Liverpool to ransom over his money and it would suit everyone.
"I don't know why clubs give out five-year contracts like that. It baffles me. Looking at what he's had, he's had time and he's had money and I don't think he's done enough with it.
"They're not going forward, they're going sideways and backwards at the moment and Liverpool fans are getting fed up.
"They're loyal but now they're thinking that change won't be the end of the world.
"He's had five years and £220million. He's had as much as Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United and he hasn't competed consistently. He's had two cup wins - Milan was an unbelievable night and it was incredible the way that turned around.
"The only other success was the FA Cup win in 2006 and again Steven Gerrard rescued them. Generally he's too cagey when it really matters and he hasn't got a great rapport with the players.
"You only had to look at Steven Gerrard's face when he took Fernando Torres off against Birmingham to see what he thought.
"I've heard him moaning about needing another £60m in the summer and it just winds me up because he's wasted so much money on people like Ryan Babel and Alberto Aquilani. They're people he's chosen who haven't been good enough.
"If I was a new investor looking at what he's done over the last five years, I wouldn't be overly-impressed."
