Sol Campbell considering position after Portsmouth pay-cut

Sol Campbell is considering whether to stay at Portsmouth on reduced wages after the club's big clear-out yesterday.
With a string of players out of contract on July 1 the axe was finally wielded as Lauren, Noe Pamarot, Jerome Thomas, Glen Little and flop Pele were all shown the door.
Glen Johnson will join Liverpool, midfielder Sean Davis chose not to sign a new deal and is expected to sign for Bolton, and left-back Djimi Traore has moved to Monaco.
Hermann Hreidarsson has been offered a new Fratton Park deal - but both Celtic and Rangers are interested.
Jermaine Pennant's loan from Liverpool has ended, with the winger now linked to Manchester City.
It leaves Campbell who - despite claims to the contrary from Pompey - has been offered a two-year deal on reduced terms. The England ace is set to resume talks when he returns from holiday shortly but Aston Villa, French club St Etienne and Swiss side Basle are all interested.
Last night Portsmouth executive chairman Peter Storrie said: "We've held talks but Sol is currently on holiday and we are waiting for him to return so we can meet again."
As for the remainder of the squad, Storrie confirmed: "Hermann (Hreidarsson) has been offered a year's contract, while Sean Davis has turned his down and will be leaving.
"The rest of them have all gone. I don't think that will surprise too many people.
"We also will not be following up Jermaine Pennant, he will not be joining us permanently.
"A lot of these decisions were not hard to make. A lot of these players weren't featuring in the team so it was best they moved on. I don't think anyone will be shocked."
But Portsmouth do want to secure Croatian playmaker Niko Kranjcar on a long-term deal, with his current contract expiring in 2010.
