Southampton manager Nigel Adkins is looking forward to an after-match drink with Nigel Pearson tomorrow night – but admits it will taste all the better if he is celebrating three more Championship points.
Southampton entertain Leicester, and Adkins is sure the St Mary’s faithful will give the Foxes’ former Saints boss Pearson a rousing reception.
“Everyone will welcome Nigel back – and they should do because he is a really good guy,” said Adkins. “I remember when he was Saints manager and he came to Scunthorpe and beat us when a ref’s decision went against us. I will be having a beer with him after the game, once we have got three points in the bag!”
Adkins knows the game could kick-off with Saints off the top of the table. He added: “It won’t be an issue. The league table will fluctuate from here on in. I’m delighted we have led the way, but most importantly I want to win this race.
“As you get closer to the winning line, expectation levels grow. As long as we keep chipping away, I am confident we will get back to the Premier League.”
