Villa's ex-City star Ireland: I'm a United fan

Stephen Ireland admits he will have butterflies at Old Trafford on Sunday – but not because of his Aston Villa side’s relegation battle.
The midfielder has risked incurring the wrath of former club Manchester City by revealing he is a closet supporter of neighbours and title rivals United.
“I was a United fan when I was growing up, as it was in my family,” said Ireland. “I had a trial with United and there was a chance I might go there.
“It was always my dream to play for United, but I felt it was the right decision to join City. I felt I had a better chance of getting in the first team there.
“When I was in City’s youth teams I got extra nervous playing against them, and even now I still do.”
* VILLA keeper Brad Guzan will be offered a deal by Hull, where he had a spell on loan last season, when his contract expires in the summer.
