Steve Bruce reckons Sunderland’s very own Forrest Gump is running into form.
David Meyler is miles ahead now soccer stattos can record who actually covers every blade of grass.
Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas is regularly held up as the marathon man when it comes to putting in the Premier League hard yards.
But the Republic of Ireland Under-21 midfielder has forced his way into Bruce’s plans after running more than eight miles in the 1-1 draw with Manchester City.
The Black Cats boss admits he was stunned by Meyler’s ProZone stats after restoring the 20-year-old to his team, saying: “The lad’s miles above everyone else. He got through 13-and-a-half kilometres against City, which is phenomenal.
“Apparently, Fabregas is up there, but I have to say he’s not done it to that extent in Arsenal’s games against us.”
Meyler is set to continue a midfield partnership with Kieran Richardson in just his fourth Premier League start.
