Steven Gerrard, Wayne Rooney John Terry and Frank Lampard on shortlist for FIFA World Player 2009

Four English players are in contention for the 2009 FIFA World Player award.
Steven Gerrard, Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard and John Terry have all made the 23-man shortlist, drawn up by football experts from the Football Committee and the Committee for Women's Football and the FIFA Women's World Cup.
Reigning FIFA World Player of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona's Lionel Messi are also in the runningas voting commences ahead of the annual gala in Zurich on December 21.
Spain provide six nominees - goalkeeper Iker Casillas, defender Carles Puyol, midfielders Andres Iniesta and Xavi and strikers Fernando Torres and David Villa.
England, with four are next, while Brazil (three) and France (two) are the only other countries with more than one player nominated.
