Steven Taylor will secure his Newcastle future next month with a new long-term deal.
The England Under-21 skipper was on less than £10,000 a week and will treble his wages.
Owner Mike Ashley demanded that Taylor's situation be resolved, despite ordering the overall wage bill to be slashed.
Taylor said: "Knowing the owner wants me to stay means a lot.
"Everyone knows I love this club and want to commit my future here, but the deal has to be right for me and the club.
"I'm happy there's been some progress, and I hope everything's sorted out soon."
Taylor has been one of the lowest paid players at St James' Park.
