Stoke City boss Tony Pulis is bidding to sign well-travelled Charlton striker Andy Gray.
Gray has been given permission to talk to the Potters about a season-long loan.
James Beattie claims Sheffield United forced him to join Stoke to ease their debts.
The 30-year-old hitman said: "The club wanted me out for financial reasons and nailed their colours to the mast on that one."
