Stourbridge midfielder Drew Canavan has waited five years for a chance to exact revenge on Walsall today.
Southern League Premier Division Stourbridge host neighbouring League One Walsall today at the War Memorial Ground in the FA Cup first round.
A 2,300-capacity crowd is expected for the derby after the hosts erected a temporary stand.
And Canavan, 20, is desperate to prove a point after being rejected by the Saddlers as a youngster.
He said: “I was at Wolves as a youngster for about five years.
“Then I went to West Brom and had a trial for Walsall.
“I was there for about eight weeks when I was 15.
“I was struggling at the time with a knee injury and Walsall knew that.
“I don’t know if they would have taken me on if I was fully fit.
“But I still think: ’what if’ as if I hadn’t had the injury I could still have been there now.
“My dad Patrick, who used to drive me to training there, has said to me I need to score the winner to prove a point.”
