Sunderland's star striker Darren Bent could be out for several weeks.
Manager Steve Bruce knows he will be without his main hitman for this weekend's trip to Wigan, and fears he could be ruled out for three weeks if a scan on his hamstring brings bad news.
The England star has had intensive treatment all week and Bruce said: “Darren has gone away for a scan and we’re not expecting the results back until Thursday or Friday, but there is a real worry that it is a hamstring strain.
“If that turns out to be the case, then we are looking at losing him for a minimum of three weeks. We will have to keep our fingers crossed.”
With Kenwyne Jones still suspended, that means Bruce has Fraizer Campbell as an option, along with ring-rusty Daryl Murphy and David Healy.
Defender Anton Ferdinand, however, is convinced Sunderland can keep producing surprise results like the win against Arsenal at the weekend.
He said: “We’re happy to keep on going under the radar. Maybe some of the big teams, bar Chelsea, have played weaker sides and we’ll let that carry on, that’s for sure.
“We wouldn’t turn away from them doing that the rest of the season. We know we can beat anyone here with the crowd behind us and acting as the 12th man and that shows.”.
