Sven Goran Eriksson is poised to complete the leap from Notts County to the World Cup with Ivory Coast - after a bout of player power in the Africans' camp.
Star striker Didier Drogba led calls for the former England coach to replace Valid Halihodzic after Guus Hiddink turned the job down in favour of Turkey.
Halihodzic has been given the boot after a poor African Nations Cup campaign whereas Eriksson has guided England to the last two World Cups. Sven is in the final stages of agreeing a contract with the Elephants.
Ivory Coast general secretary Hegaurd Ouattara was today adamant that the Swede is still a popular appointment.
He said: "Sven was not our first choice. That was Guus Hiddink. But Eriksson's record speaks for itself."
