Tony Mowbray has given up on Bolton's Abdoulaye Meite.
The West Brom chief (below right) failed with two bids for the Ivory Coast defender and has ended his interest after a summerlong chase.
Mowbray, who lost out on Majid Bougherra, is setting his sights on Charlton's Zheng Zhi and Rosenberg's Per Ciljan Skjelbred.
Mowbray said: "We made an enquiry but there wasn't an agreement. We know what our valuation of the footballer is."
Mowbray gave his fringe players a rare run-out in yesterday's goalless draw at Swansea. Chris Brunt and Paul Robinson went closet for Baggies.
