Mark Gower will sign a one-year extension at Championship high-flyers Swansea.
The former Tottenham trainee, 32, has agreed terms to commit his future to the Liberty Stadium.
And midfielder Gower, who joined the third-placed Swans from Southend on a free transfer in 2008, will stay until 2012.
Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers said: “Mark has agreed an extension which includes this season and next with the option on the back end of that.
“We could have easily let Mark’s contract run down until the end of the season as he has done in the past couple of years but it doesn’t sit comfortably with me.
“I want the player to know that I want him here and I value him as a player.”
Gower returned from a hamstring injury to play a major part in the 1-0 south Wales derby victory over arch rivals Cardiff.
Rodgers added: “People forget Mark was a central midfield player at Tottenham but as his career moved on he became more of a wide player.
“He’s been outstanding this season and an influential player for the team. He’s performed to a really high level this season and, although, we were disappointed to lose Darren, Mark was a big player to have back.”
