Turbo-charged Theo Walcott has upstaged Thierry Henry to set a new Arsenal record.
Walcott has broken Henry’s 40-metre sprint time as he confirmed himself as the quickest player at the club.
Furthermore, Walcott has outpaced Henry in their sprint tests at 5m, 10m and 40m and is so quick that Arsene Wenger says the flying winger could have even been a match for Olympic 100m champion Usain Bolt.
Arsenal boss Wenger said: “The fastest three players I would say are Theo Walcott, Carlos Vela and Armand Traore. And yes, Theo is the fastest.
“He has the record over 40 metres. I think it’s 4.72 seconds or something like that. Thierry was very fast as well, 4.82secs. I don’t guarantee [the time] but it is in this area.
“Certainly Theo could have been a 100 metre runner. But Carlos Vela is very fast as well, and Armand Traore is not far behind him.”
Walcott has not only taken Henry’s number 14 shirt but also blitzed the speed records of his former Arsenal mentor.
But, incredibly, Walcott believes he can get even quicker in the future and his speed puts him right up there alongside established sprinters.
Former Olympic champion Donovan Bailey clocked 5.56secs doing 50m and Maurice Greene did 60m in 6.39secs.
Meanwhile, Arsenal and Hull were yesterday both charged with “failure to control their players“ after the 20 man brawl at the Emirates on Saturday.
Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri was let off by referee Steve Bennett after the FA asked him to review the video evidence again.
But Nasri’s stamp on Hull’s Richard Garcia sparked the fracas and both clubs are now in hot water. But Hull were recently found guilty of a similar offence and fined £7,500 so it is a rap over the knuckles for both. They have until January 13 to respond.=
