Tottenham are poised to wrap up a £13million deal for Real Madrid striker Alvaro Negredo by this weekend.
Harry Redknapp had been expected to make Dutchman Klaas Jan Huntelaar his first summer signing but he is now expected to complete his move to German club Stuttgart after appearing to change his mind.
Spurs have been in talks with Madrid over several players since the end of the transfer window but although they are struggling to bag the glamour names such as Arjen Robben and Ruud van Nistelrooy, Redknapp still appears to have pulled off a shrewd deal.
Negredo, 23, has an good scoring record in La Liga. Sold by Madrid to Almeria two years ago, he hit 13 goals in his first season and 19 in the last campaign.
Madrid exercised their buy back option of around £4.5million to bring him back to the Bernebeu but with Karim Benzema, Raul and Cristiano Ronaldo at the club Negredo's options are extremenly limited.
Real had been keen to offer the marksman to Liverpool as part of a deal to bring Xabi Alonso back to Spain.
But Reds boss Rafa Benitez remains insistent that he does not want to sell Alonso - a stance which saw any potential deal fall through.
