Harry Redknapp has confirmed Tottenham are in the hunt for £16million-rated Brazil midfielder Sandro.
The Internacional star, 20, has already been capped once for the senior squad by Brazil coach Dunga, and Spurs boss Redknapp admitted yesterday that he has received rave reviews from his scouts.
He said: "We've been looking at Sandro. He's just breaking into the Brazilian team from the under-21s. He can play - he's a modern day midfield player."
The summer departures of Didier Zokora to Sevilla and Jamie O'Hara to Portsmouth on loan have left Spurs in need of midfield reinforcements.
Asked for details on a potential deal, Redknapp replied: "(Chief executive) Daniel Levy would be dealing with that. He's a player we've identified though.
"Ian Broomfield, my chief scout, was in Brazil and watched a lot of games. There were a couple of players there that he came back and recommended strongly.
"I'd like to go and have a look myself as well and, if we do decide to do anything, it'll be up to the chairman to push it on from there.
"He's similar to Gilberto (Silva, the former Arsenal midfielder). He's more of a holding midfield player, but a very good footballer."
