Tottenham pay just £6million to sign Jermain Defoe

Jermain Defoe watched from the stands at White Hart Lane last night as his new team-mates put Burnley to the sword.
Spurs beat Burnley 4-1 in their carling Cup semi final first leg and the striker was a winner too as he signed a five-year deal worth £60,000 a week - nearly DOUBLE what he was on at Spurs just 12 months ago.
Tottenham have got the 26-year-old England star on the cheap. They will only pay around £6million for him as Portsmouth still owe them £7m from the original deal and on their other Spurs signings Younes Kaboul and Pedro Mendes.
It is an incredible piece of of business by Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.
Defoe quit Spurs a year ago as one of the lowest earners and was sold to Portsmouth for £9m.
He now returns as top earner in the club's rigid wage structure. Tottenham blitzed Burnley with four goals in 21 second-half minutes.
Martin Paterson gave Burnley the lead after 15 minutes.
But Michael Dawson headed home Jamie O'Hara's 47th-minute corner. O'Hara crashed in a volley to give Spurs the lead. Roman Pavlyuchenko added a third and Michael Duff's own goal made it four.
