Tottenham striker Darren Bent is close to finalising a £15m move to Sunderland, the Daily Mirror can exclusively reveal.
Spurs and Sunderland agreed a fee and Steve Bruce's club are confident that the transfer will be concluded soon. According to reports Bent has not travelled to China, where Tottenham are having their pre-season tour, in order to firm up the deal.
The transfer would bring to an end to a torrid time at White Hart Lane for 25-year-old Bent, who has won four England caps.
In 2007 he signed for Spurs for £16.65 and failed to live up to his price tag and nail down a regular first-team place.
Bruce confirmed over the weekend that Sunderland were locked in fresh high-level negotiations with Tottenham to buy the England striker, following the snub of Portsmouth striker Peter Crouch.
The Black Cats boss, speaking from Sunderland's Dutch HQ for the Amsterdam Tournament, told the Sunday Mirror: "Talks are ongoing at a high level."
