The Sevilla marksman has been offered to the north Londoners, taken by Redknapp from the jaws of relegation two years ago into next Champions League.
Redknapp’s contract was set to expire in October with the option of a third year.
Now Spurs have rewarded him with a lucrative new two-year deal which runs until 2013.
Fabiano, 29, enjoyed a stunning World Cup capped by three goals, two of them in a man of the match display against the Ivory Coast.
But Redknapp fears the wages will prove a stumbling block for the man who lifted the Golden Ball at last year’s Confederations Cup.
The player’s agent claimed during the World Cup that he expected Fabiano to move on and that he would demand around £150,000-a-week.
Redknapp, already in for free agent Joe Cole, said: “Yes, I like him. He’s a fabulous player and would be brilliant addition to any team.
“It was put to us that he might be available but we’ve not made contact with his club Sevilla and, to be perfectly honest, I haven’t sat down to discuss any transfer targets with our chairman Daniel Levy, apart from trying to do a deal with Joe Cole.
“I am not unhappy with the squad I have, but of course if a special player came along I would look at it, and Fabiano is a special player all right.
“For sure, he is a class act, but I don’t know what he earns. He might be on mega money, so it might prove to be impossible for us.”
Meanwhile 25-year-old left-back Taiwo is keen on a move to White Hart Lane after leading of Spurs’ interest.
The Nigeria international is under contract to Marseille until 2012. But is keen to move to the Premier League in search of regular first-team football after six years at the club.
Taiwo was a regular on the bench at Marseille during the second half of last season as his boss Didier Deschamps preferred to play Argentine Gabriel Heinze ahead of him.
Atletico Madrid have already had a £4.2million bid turned down and Taiwo said: “If I stay in Marseille I want to play week in week out. I am a football player not someone to sit on the bench and get paid.
“My ambition has always been to play at the top level. Spurs are a fantastic team in the best league.”
