Tranmere Rovers want to tempt highly-rated boss Keith Hill from Rochdale - as chairman Peter Johnson closes in on a new manager.
Hill has emerged as the leading candidate for the post with the League One strugglers after guiding unfashionable Dale into the top three in the division below.
Now Rovers are trying to put together a package and a budget that will make him take on the challenge. Physio Les Parry has been in charge recently after John Barnes was dumped.
Barnes was on a very low salary and Hill will need more money to be pumped in to give up Rochdale to switch to Merseyside.
