Villa to compete with Liverpool for Jarvis signature

Gerard Houllier is ready to go to war with former club Liverpool in an £8million battle for England new boy Matt Jarvis.
Aston Villa boss Houllier has targeted Wolves winger Jarvis as a ready-made replacement for Ashley Young, who is certain to quit in June.
Young is off after four-and-a-half years at Villa Park, with Manchester United and Liverpool both possible destinations.
Houllier is making moves to recruit a replacement and will attempt to prise Jarvis from Midlands rivals Wolves.
Jarvis made his first England appearance in the friendly with Ghana last week and is also on Kenny Dalglish’s hit list. Wolves boss Mick McCarthy will demand at least £8m for the 24-year-old, who cost only £400,000 from Gillingham in 2007.
McCarthy said: “At this moment in time there’s no reason why we would want to sell anybody, and there’s no necessity.
“But me being honest, I am saying there are certain things that happen in the game – you can’t stop it.”
Injuries weaken Dalglish's hand in job negotiations
