Coventry want to ship out Michael McIndoe to clear room on their wage bill for Marlon King.
The Sky Blues have already loaned out youngsters Jermaine Grandison to Tranmere and Shaun Jeffers to Cheltenham.
And Scottish midfielder McIndoe, 30, has been made available with Scunthorpe and Doncaster interested.
Coventry chairman Ray Ranson wants to free up resources to meet King's £10,000-a-week salary.
Controversial striker King, freed from jail in July, is expected to make his debut in Saturday's local derby at the Ricoh Arena against Leicester.
He has been training with the rest of Boothroyd's squad after playing for the manager previously at Watford.
King's agent Tony Finnigan said: "From Marlon's point of view he can't wait to sign for Coventry.
"I understand it is imminent and we are very hopeful."
