Frank Lampard could be set to replace David Beckham at LA Galaxy.
The Chelsea midfielder, who scored the only goal as he captained England to a friendly win against Spain on Saturday night, is seen as the perfect Premier League icons to replace Becks, who is set to quit the MLS side for Paris St Germain after next Sunday's Cup final against Houston Dynamo.
Lampard has played his way back into Blues manager Andre Villas-Boas' plans but the Portuguese could still be tempted to let the 33-year-old go.
It is not known whether he would favour a move to the USA's West Coast, especially given his recent engagement to UK TV presenter Christine Bleakley.
Galaxy bosses are though to have discussed a move for Lampard. They want Beckham to stay on but he is thought to be close to a move to PSG, where former Milan team-mate Leonardo is coach.
Another option would be for him to buy his own MLS franchise.
MLS commissioner Don Garber said: "David has delivered for us on all aspects of our expectations, both on and off the field.
"'David had a terrific year this year. It would be hard to argue he wasn't one of the most important players on our fields.
"Off the field, he continues to be an important part of what drives some of the popularity of our league, both here and around the world.
"MLS wouldn't be what it is today if David didn't come to play in Major League Soccer. All of us appreciate everything that he has done."
