Liverpool want to grab Algerian attacking midfielder Ryad Boudebouz of Sochaux in the transfer window.
New Anfield director of football strategy Damien Comolli is set to scout the 20-year-old, already linked with Spurs, in the next few weeks.
Boudebouz, a finalist for Young African Player of The Year in 2010, impressed against England in the World Cup finals and would cost £4million.
He is known for his dribbling and a left foot which saw him score from the halfway line against Monaco last season.
