Schalke to bid for Liverpool target Friedel

Schalke are eyeing a summer swoop for Aston Villa's Brad Friedel as they step up their search for Manuel Neuer's successor.
Friedel, who turns 40 next month, is out of contract at the end of the season and in talks with the Midlands club over a new deal.
But Villa are also in the market for a younger goalkeeper for next term, leaving doubts over whether the American will be No. 1.
Schalke are already resigned to losing Neuer, who gave one of the great goalkeeping displays in Tuesday's 2-0 Champions League defeat to Manchester United.
The Germany international is expected to sign for Bayern Munich, but Sir Alex Ferguson has not given up hope of hijacking the move.
A move to the Bundesliga would offer guaranteed regular first-team football for the ex-Liverpool and Blackburn keeper in what could be his final season as a professional.
Friedel has proven he can still cut it at the top with a string of fine displays this term and Liverpool are also interested in re-signing the stopper.
