Gerard Houllier is a keen on a cut-price January move for Robbie Keane.
The Aston Villa boss is monitoring Keane’s situation at Tottenham following a reported bust-up with boss Harry Redknapp.
And Keane blew two chances for the Republic of Ireland against Slovakia, which coach Giovanni Trapattoni blamed on a lack of Spurs games.
He said: “Keane could have scored if he was in his best condition. It is clear he is not fit for 90 minutes.”
