Diego Forlan last night performed a U-turn and claimed a "good offer" could tempt Atletico Madrid into selling him.
Forlan appeared to pledge his future to Madrid despite strong interest from Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp after his superb performances in the World Cup.
But Forlan has now hinted he may want another crack at the Premier League having been branded a flop after his spell at Manchester United.
Forlan said: "They have to make a good offer and we have to see. I am very happy in Madrid and the way the city and the team are always with me.
"(But) you never know. If it is a good offer we have to see if the team wants me to leave or not and then we have to sit and talk."
Forlan has been Uruguay's leader and inspiration in their campaign and will be reunited with Luis Suarez tonight after his strike partner served his one-match suspension for his handball against Ghana.
Normally the third place play-off is a meaningless affair and yet Forlan has stressed that Uruguay are desperate to win and make their mark.
Forlan added: "It is the best performance by a Uruguay for 40 years since we were semi finalists in 1970 and now we want to keep that going and make our history.
"We have exceeded expectations and to us this game is very important and we are determined to battle until the last.
"It would be a great achievement to finish third at the World Cup, write our names into history and be remembered.
"That is a great opportunity for us and the team has stuck together through a lot and now we are determined to do it for ourselves."
