Mick McCarthy is ready to battle West Ham and Blackburn for free agent Benjani.
Wolves boss McCarthy wants to offer the former Manchester City striker a move to Molineux after his release from Eastlands.
Zimbabwe international Benjani, 31, is on the hunt for a new club after Roberto Mancini showed him the door at the end of last season.
Benjani endured a difficult loan spell at Sunderland earlier this year - and has not scored a Premier League goal since December 2008.
But McCarthy wants to bring in more firepower despite the £7m signing of Stephen Fletcher from Burnley.
