Mick McCarthy is ready to enter the £500,000 race for Barnsley winger Adam Hammill - after a personal check yesterday.
Wolves boss McCarthy will fight West Ham, Blackpool and Nottingham Forest in a scrap to sign the former Liverpool trainee this month.
Hammill, 22, has an escape clause at Oakwell and McCarthy travelled to his first professional club to watch him play against Coventry.
