Luke Young's exit from Aston Villa is a step nearer after he was omitted from the club’s latest touring squad as Liverpool eye him.
Right-back Young, 31, has been at logger-heads with boss Martin O’Neill for a year since returning home early from pre-season training in Spain.
Young is still fuming after being played out-of-position at left-back before losing his natural right-back berth to Carlos Cuellar.
He then declined the chance to go to Ireland training last week ahead of a friendly against Bohemians.
And now Young is not travelling with Villa today (Wednesday) when they fly to Portugual.
Even Man City target James Milner, 24, has been included in Villa’s squad for this weekend’s Guadiana Cup which also features Benfica and Feyenoord.
And midfielder Steve Sidwell, 27, is also going while he waits on Fulham’s new manager before completing a £2million move to Craven Cottage.
But Young is determined to quit with Fulham and Liverpool both interested in the star, who was bought for £5m from Middlesbrough in August 2008.
The Anfield club need cover for England full-back Glen Johnson.
