Video: Rene Higuita, Ronaldo and the best ever football skills

A new survey released today has revealed the greatest ever football tricks.
And even though we're instinctively loath to trust the results of anything that rates lower-league show pony Lee Trundle over bona-fide footballing genius Diego Maradonna, this has at least gives us an excuse to dust off some genuine YouTube gold.
So here's the, er, Top 7 Best Ever Football Tricks, as voted for by users of be-studded footwear fetishists' website footy-boots.com :
1) Rene Higuita's Scorpion Kick (polled 20% of votes)
Columbian goalkeeper Jose Rene Higuita Zapata was nicknamed 'El Loco'; partly for attempting to pull off on-pitch stunts like this, and partly for getting involved in off-field kidnapping rings while working with notorious South American drug barons like Pablo Escobar and Carlos Molina. There just aren't enough of these kind of eccentrics in football, frankly.
2) Ronaldinho's Flik Flak (19%)
Nowadays he's more famous for eating burgers, missing training and falling out with Samuel Eto'o, but once upon a time Ronaldinho was the most gifted footballer of his generation, as this clip proves. AC Milan fans will doubtless be praying he rediscovers his love for flik flaks over Big Macs at the San Siro.
3) Cristiano Ronaldo's Stepovers (18%)
Ronnie's stopovers aren't to everyone's taste - just ask Middlesbrough's James Morrisson - but there's no disputing his breathtaking ball control. The Portuguese winger may make a rubbish slave, but then Kunte Kinte couldn't do this with a football either.
4) Cruyff's Turn (18%)
The Cruyff Turn can be described thus: look to pass or cross the ball but instead of kicking it, drag the ball behind your planted foot with the inside of your other foot, turn through 180 degrees and accelerate away outside the defender. Sounds rubbish on paper, but looks <<magical>> on grass. Take it away Johann…
5) Kerlon Seal Dribble (15%)
The most controversial skill in the list, on account of the fact that any tackler attempting to win the ball also stands a good chance of taking the player's head with it. Not that Cruzeiro midfielder Kerlon, its most famous current exponent, is unduly bothered: "It's not meant to be a mark of disrespect for my opponents," he shrugs. "Opponents say they will snap me, but this doesn't scare me it just motivates me even more."
6) Lee Trundle's Showboating (6%)
Then Swansea City striker Lee Trundle's frequent appearances on Sky's Saturday morning footie show Soccer AM made him a cult figure; the fact that, as presenter Tim Lovejoy revealed in his autobiography, the player used to send the clips of him bamboozling less-than-accomplished League One defenders himself was less impressive, however.
7) Maradona's Keepie-uppies (4%)
Admittedly the keepie-uppy is to football tricks what mastering the riff to Smoke On The Water is to guitar playing, but few players carry it off with the aplomb of Diego Armando Maradonna. Watch and learn…
