Marvin Sordell’s first-half double helped lift Watford out of the Championship relegation places, as they ended a worrying run of four successive defeats.
Mark Yeates’ fourth-minute strike for the Hornets was the first of five goals in an enthralling opening 45 minutes.
Lee Frecklington’s rasping effort put the visitors on level terms before Sordell scored twice in three minutes to put Watford 3-1 up, only for Emile
Sinclair to reduce the deficit in the 39th minute with a shot from just
inside the penalty area.
Watford boss Sean
Dyche said: “I’m really proud of the lads today, especially as we were without the injured
John Eustace and Lloyd Doyley.
“I think we were worthy winners in the end. We’ve had an awkward week and we’ve had people
injured at the last minute, so to come through and deliver a good performance is very satisfying.”
Frustrated Posh boss Darren Ferguson said: “When you score two away from home you
expect to get something, but individual mistakes are costing us games.
“Again we played some good football, but I’d rather be a good footballing team that win games.”
