Watford captain Jay DeMerit is hoping a decent FA Cup run can kick-start his side's troubled season.
A home tie with Crystal Palace this afternoon is a welcome break from the Championship calendar, in which the relegation threatened Hornets have not won for five matches.
American defender DeMerit said: "People do look for blame and I have to take that as captain. But a win here could turn things around. I mean, to win by two or three goals would be a great situation.
"Obviously the leagueis our priority and we would like this to be a Championship game so that we can start putting things right. Butacup run could be good for us, too."
DeMerit was involved in an on-field argument with defensive partner Adrian Mariappa in last week's 2-0 defeat to Sheffield United - a sign of the frustration being felt at the moment.
But things are beginning to look up as a reshuffle behind the scenes sees former manager Graham Taylor joining the board along with returning directors Jimmy and Vince Russo and former chairman Stuart Timperley.
Despite poor recent form, DeMeritis remaining upbeat.
Headded: "People think that results dictate mood in the camp, but it is not as bad as you would think.
"Our at mosphere at training is good because we are playing quite well in the main during matches. We are just not getting results."
Manager Brendan Rodgers is still trying to mould the side to fit into his passing style of play.
DeMerit said: "It takes time to convert from the direct style we were using under Aidy Boothroyd. But I feel we are slowly getting there."
