Wayne Bridge was right to quit international football, according to Arsenal defender Mikael Silvestre.
The French defender refused to join Newcastle in 2007 because Joey Barton was there and the bad boy midfielder attacked Silvestre’s close pal Ousmane Dabo.
Bridge is standing by his decision to turn his back on England after his ex-Chelsea team mate John Terry had an affair with his former girlfriend.
Silvestre, 32, said: “After what he (Barton) did to my friend it was impossible for me to play alongside him. When you are part of of a team you are part of a family. I couldn’t do it.
“I fully understand Bridge’s decision. He has got to leave England, which is hard when you are a top player. You want to play for your country.
“He made the right choice, especially as they would have to play right next to each other and communicate.
“Footballers spend so much time together and the togetherness can’t be real if you have to avoid someone.”
