Rooney will earn £500k for one night's work in A:3K skills challenge

Wayne Rooney will pick up a staggering £500,000 for one night's work - just six days after the World Cup final.

As Mirror Sport revealed yesterday, Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo have been lined up to take part in a Gladiators-style contest at London's O2 Arena to decide the world's most skilful footballer.

Last night organisers confirmed Cesc Fabregas, Steven Gerrard, David Villa and Didier Drogba will feature at the inaugural A:3K Football event on July 17.

And both Rooney and Ronaldo are expected to break into their summer holiday to complete the line-up of £300 million worth of talent, who will compete head-to-head in a series of shooting and skills challenges devised by consultants including David Beckham.

Terry Byrne, director of promoters Aura Entertainment, confirmed: "We will see some of the greatest footballers in the world competing in gladiatorial-style challenges to give fans an experience unlike any other."

The event will be screened live by ITV1.
