Refs apologise to Wigan over THAT corner

Referees' chief Mike Riley has apologised to rock-bottom Wigan for Andre Marriner’s mistake that cost them two points on Saturday.
Marriner failed to spot that Blackburn had scored from an illegally taken corner in the 3-3 DW Stadium draw.
Now, his boss Riley has phoned Latics chief Roberto Martinez to sympathise.
Martinez said: “Mike Riley rang and explained his view. He was very supportive and that shows we have the right man in charge.
“His view was that the referee got it wrong.
“The decision has a big influence on us. Dropping two points for us at the moment is a matter of live or death in the Premier League.”
Riley has not assigned Marriner to a game for the coming weekend, a move seen as punishment for his mistake.
However, Martinez has taken a Christian view on the axing of the official.
“I would rather Andre refereed and tried to get himself sharper," said the Spaniard. "It will not get us the points back. To see him not referee is not giving us any comfort.”
Wigan’s bid to get back on track at Sunderland on Saturday has been hit by the news that James McCarthy is a doubt because of a thigh problem.
