Wigan boss Roberto Martinez has saluted centre-half Gary Caldwell - after he beat the baby blues.
Caldwell was a stand-out performer and a goalscorer in the thriller with Aston Villa on Tuesday night, and Latics chief Martinez hailed the way he came back from a shocker at Bolton last weekend.
The Scotland international has been suffering from a lack of sleep since becoming a dad, but he answered the alarm calls better against Martin O'Neill's men.
Martinez said: "He is a responsible character and a leader. He was very hurt after the Bolton game but the hardest thing is to react in the right manner - and he did.
"Gary imposed himself on the match, he was outstanding against two of the best strikers in the whole of the Premier League."
