Dave Whelan has blasted Wigan defender Antolin Alcaraz for allegedly spitting at a Wolves player in the match at Molineux on Sunday.
The Latics player was charged with the spitting at Wolves' defender Richard Stearman by the FA yesterday and will face a three-match ban if he admits the charge.
But he could face further punishment from his club after Wigan chairman Dave Whelan said "he deserves everything he gets."
Whelan is quoted in the Daily Telegraph as saying: "That sort of behaviour has no place in football. It has no place in society. It is disgusting, a horrible thing to do and I was shocked by the allegations.
"If Alcaraz has spat at another player he deserves everything he gets. I will back whatever punishment the manager and the Football Association decide to impose.
"I cannot tolerate this sort of thing and it saddens me that a Wigan player is alleged to have done it. I think it is totally unacceptable."
Alcaraz has until 6pm today to respond to the charge.
