Wigan supremo says 'Pick Rick for FA Chief'

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan reckons former Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry would be the ideal choice to take over the top job at the Football Association.
Whelan is desperate for the FA to be reformed following England’s abject World Cup showing and has already stated that the Premier League should take over the running of the national team.
And Whelan says Parry, who left Liverpool in February 2009 following a 10-year spell in charge at Anfield, would be the perfect man to lead the FA forward along with Manchester United chief executive David Gill.
Whelan said: “We have to get a very good and strong chairman of the FA because the last two we’ve had have fallen out with various people and I don’t think they’ve done a good job.
“If we’re going to keep the FA, then I’d go for the likes of David Gill or Rick Parry.
“Those two guys know football inside out and have been at the very top. We need someone of that calibre to take the FA’s reins.
“I’ve been in meetings when Rick has been there at the Premier League. He’s strict, straightforward guy and knows the game.”
