Wigan look to beat Steve Bruce to Hendry Thomas signing

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez is rushing through a £2m deal for Honduras international Hendry Thomas - to keep him out of Steve Bruce's clutches at Sunderland.

Defensive midfielder Thomas, 24, flew in for talks yesterday, but Martinez knows Bruce is waiting to pounce if they fail.

Wigan defender Titus Bramble is wanted by Aston Villa, who will offer £3.5m and midfielder Barry Bannan.
