Under-pressure Wolves boss Mick McCarthy reckons “everyone in the world” knows the importance of this weekend’s game at home to Wigan.
Wanderers have slipped to 17th in the Premier League after a shocking run of six defeats in seven League games.
While Roberto Martinez has been assured his job is safe despite the Latics being bottom.
And boss McCarthy is anxious to safeguard his own future with a home win on Saturday after successive defeats to Man City in the Carling Cup and top-flight.
He said: “Man City was the most important one before Saturday, now it’s Wigan because it’s the next game.
“But everybody in the world that has got any sort of football knowledge will know that Wolves v Wigan is a huge game.
"And all those games against the teams down the bottom of the table are going to be hugely important.
“Quite clearly everyone knows that. We lost a lot of those last year and won the big games, Saturday’s one we need to catch up on.”
Wigan prop up the Premier League due to a woeful seven-match losing run.
Wolves put in decent displays against City but McCarthy wants to see results in return.
“We’ve got to get some points, we played well on Saturday and on Wednesday and we got nothing,” he added.
