Wolves leading chase for Blackburn striker

Wolves are leading the chase to take striker Jason Roberts from Blackburn.

Boss Mick McCarthy has turned to the experience of the 31-year-old, who has played in every division in England, after being knocked back by Stoke’s James Beattie.

McCarthy is ready with a £1million bid for Roberts after Ewood Park boss Sam Allardyce decided to listen to offers for the Granada international to raise cash to freshen his squad.

Newcastle and ­Middlesbrough have also asked about taking him on loan, but Roberts wants a permanent move.

And Wolves, where ­Sylvain Ebanks-Blake and Chris Iwelumo have both struggled to give Premier League support to Kevin Doyle, would be an ideal destination for a player whose chances have been limited since the £6m ­signing of Nikola Kalinic.
