Australia's Tim Cahill has been given a reprieve by FIFA after fearing his World Cup was over after his red card against Germany.
The Everton midfielder was shown a straight red card for a clumsy challenge on Bastian Schweinsteiger, which left him in tears after his side’s 4-0 defeat.
Cahill called the sending-off “the lowest moment of my career” and pleaded with FIFA not to effectively end his tournament by handing him a two-match ban.
After reviewing the incident, FIFA’s disciplinary panel decided a one-match ban was sufficient punishment. Cahill will miss tomorrow’s clash with Ghana but but will be free to play against Serbia on June 23.
