Uruguay and Germany are level at 1-1 after 30 minutes of the third-place playoff match at the World Cup on Saturday.
Thomas Mueller's fifth goal of the tournament gave Germany a 1-0 lead at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, sweeping the ball home after Bastian Schweinsteiger's swerving shot had been stopped by goalkeeper Fernando Muslera.
Edison Cavani hit back for Uruguay in the 28th minute when he broke clear and slid a shot past goalkeeper Hans Joerg Butt.
Germany defender Arne Friedrich hit the crossbar with a header from a 10th-minute corner as his team dominated the early stages.
Uruguay forward Diego Forlan then had a header blocked by the back of Germany defender Per Mertesacker in the 25th minute.
