Hibernian have announced teenager David Wotherspoon had signed a two-year contract extension tying him to the club until June 2013.
The 19-year-old has made the successful transition from Hibs' all-conquering under-19 side this season, scoring on his debut against St Mirren on the opening day of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League campaign. He has been a mainstay of the side under manager John Hughes, mostly featuring at right-back despite midfield being his preferred position.
"I am delighted to commit myself for the next three and a half years to Hibernian," Wotherspoon told the club's official website, www.hibernianfc.co.uk.
"The club has given me a great opportunity and I love it here. The gaffer has a real vision of where he wants to go and I aim to be part of it.
"It's an exciting club to be at just now, so I'll just keep working as hard as I can to keep playing first-team football."
Hughes added: "This is brilliant news for the club and I am personally delighted for David.
"Although he has just broken into the first team this season, he has been one of our most consistent performers.
"This contract extension is just reward for the progress he has made and his attitude to hard work - he really is a model professional who has all the attributes to go far in the game.
"This club provides a fantastic environment to develop young professionals, and it's great to see players like David coming through to ensure that we continue to build a squad to compete at the highest level."
